Change of scenery, maybe temporary

Blog news: I have been mulling over which blog platform is right for me for quite a while, and the latest that looks to have promise is Tumblr. I feel more like I can mini-blog over there, as well as include some more substantial posts when the need occurs. I'm going to give it a try, at least for a bit. Come find me: jerkameleon.tumblr.com

Actor out of work

Well, I made the extremely long drive to Michigan for the holidays. I actually did it over three days this time around. It started with a short drive to NH to visit my friend Josh, where he promptly took me out to dinner. It had been quite a while since I had been out for a nice steak dinner. Afterward I was able to give him his xmas present. And here it is on him:

I took my time getting to the Canadian border in NY, and finally got my car setup with EZpass before stopping near Buffalo at a Red Roof Inn. Hotels are kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. So I enjoyed it. But now, I've spent the past few days at my parents' house, and I'm going a bit stir crazy. The holidays will be here soon enough though. I just need some things to do. I will certainly enjoy the actual holidays, but right now I am yearning to be back at my own place. The tree looks nice though.

You could take me to the dragon's layer.

It's finally the end of the semester, and it has been a crazy few months. I dislocated my shoulder for the sixth time since my senior year of high school. I've been in and out of a relationship. I have met some brilliant new friends, and reconnected with some old ones. I have knit a lot and finished little. I've gotten braver in the kitchen. I voted for gay marriage in a second state and watched it fail. I have gone on real dates. I gathered 13 weeks worth of data. So was it a good or bad semester? I'm not really sure yet. It was exciting at least.

Back to the wild

It has been such a long time since I’ve last written, and I think the starting up again is based on, not really peer pressure, but more, uh, unknowing urging. I’m not the only twenty-something named Adam who has a knit-blog of sorts, and some new posts have started popping up on adamknits.com again. So here goes!

I think today I’ll just start with some of the knitting that has actually been accomplished. My first fair isle project ever was started and finished soon after the new year. There were several pairs of socks, and my first ever sweater. I’ll keep it short and simple today, just look at the pictures.

There will be more to come. I’ve actually finished too many projects recently that I haven’t had time to properly take pictures of them all. The list includes several hats, my first ever washcloths (which come with their own story) and my version of the Hemlock Ring Blanket (which if I had known exactly what was going to ensue during the bind-off I may never have started).

Unexpected

Sometimes things are just amazing, like how my grandmother filled up a fifty state quarters book for each and everyone of her grandchildren, all 10 of us, and also included several coins that were collected by my late grandfather. I received the 1927 silver dollar, which was from the year they were born. It is incredible how dilligent and thoughtful this was, something that I'm sure to cherish for a lifetime.

What to get

The one sale at my local yarn store has come and gone, with me unable to take advantage of it. I wandered around the store, with no plans in mind, and just kind of got stuck. Sure, there was yarn that I would have liked, but I just couldn't seem to justify it to myself. Since then I have come up with several ideas, but it's too late now. All I ended up buying was the remaining yarn for my sweater. Which is going swimmingly, by the way. Here's what it looks like now:

I finally managed to get a picture of the mittens that I made too.

I'm being slightly ambitious with gifts this year, but only considering how busy I think I will be the next two weeks. I've got one gift that I need to finish before I head back to Michigan, and one that won't need to be finished until Christmas day. They aren't exactly major projects, probably one skein a piece. I just need to make sure I find the time.

Blindsided

Neko Case has a new album coming out next year.

And this is the album art:

Fucking wicked.
